Tom Whitfield 36' (LOA) Gaff rigged cruising cutter built at Scotch College, Melbourne, under senior shipwright supervision. The build process was fully recorded with photos from harvesting the Huon Pine right through to her launching in 1998. She is a modern interpretation of the Bristol Channel Pilot cutters, a robust cruising yacht designed for offshore and coastal passage making. Planked in Huon Pine with copper nails roved on hardwood frames and featuring a traditional gaff rig and 8' bowsprit, she employs some modern sailing aids such as a furling headsail and two-speed winches making her easy to sail. Her 6ft draft long keel means she tracks true and her 75hp Yanmar diesel engine (only 500 hours run) provides ample power. The electric anchor windlass makes anchoring a breeze. Below decks you will find a roomy and traditional eight berth layout with 6ft 4" headroom throughout. There is a well appointed galley with sink, gas stove & oven plus a fridge. The fully enclosed marine toilet incorporates a hot and cold shower and there is a second shower in the cockpit. Traditional features include a Huon Pine butterfly skylight and ventilation hatch over the main saloon and a unique solid Huon Pine table. Electronics include a log and speedo, depth sounder and a VHF radio. Now much reduced and MUST BE SOLD, all offers considered. The Hick 30 Toecutter was designed and built in Carbon and foam core composite by leading Melbourne naval architect and boat builder, Robert Hick. Launched in 2003, she saw immediate success with a 2nd overall on IRC in the 2003 Sydney to Hobart Race. Seldom off the podium since, she is probably the most consistently successful yacht in the history of AMS racing on Port Phillip. Toecutter enjoys an enviable record of achievements including regularly winning the Club Marine Series and ORCV Winter Series, often finishing her races amid the Div 1 fleet that had started 5 minutes ahead. She remains the benchmark in Div 2 AMS racing on Port Phillip and is now offered for sale with the potential to continue her winning ways for a new owner. Strongly built to endure the rigours of blue water offshore racing, she is light, fast, stiff and responsive in all conditions. Mast and boom are carbon and her sail wardrobe is complete and competitive. She enjoys a fully optimised AMS rating. She has a dry, practical but comfortable interior that stays dry and offers reasonable headroom for a boat of her size. Always 'dry stored' and crane launched since new, Toecutter 11 may be inspected on the hardstand in Williamstown. For further information, inventory and photos or to arrange your inspection, please call Chris Furey on 0410 551 977.
